Bringing in the Bystander® College Program: Questions Frequently Asked During Train-the-Trainer Workshop

Bringing in the Bystander (BITB) is an evidence-based prevention program based on the concept that all community members have a role to play in ending incivility, harassment, violence and discrimination. The important role that a bystander has in intervention is the basis for this unique and effective program.

We offer multiple training options including train-the-trainer workshops during which our lead trainers review best practices in training administrators, community partners, coaches, student leaders and other audiences in a college or university setting.

During the training, our lead trainers review the curriculum, presenting best practices and options for customization as well as guidelines on how best to oversee discussions related to specific scenarios and exercises that may be challenging to facilitate.

It is a great opportunity for conversations with our lead trainers but also within the audience as they discuss best practices and innovative ideas.

Below are some commonly asked questions during the train-the-trainer workshops:

  • Customizing: How can we adapt for international delivery of this program (i.e., things like data and case studies)?

  • How do you handle trigger warnings?

  • How do you keep the timing of the curriculum on track with students?

  • How do you address instances of victim blaming during activities like case studies?

  • What are some tips for single-person facilitation of this program?

  • How can we get more students to attend if we don't make it mandatory?

  • Can I use different scenarios?

  • How do I make this curriculum more inclusive or representative of my college community?

  • What if a student discloses during training?
